Linking static and dynamic mechanical properties for metamorphic rocks from Austria including their anisotropic effect

Abstract The derivation of geomechanical properties from petrophysical/geophysical data is not only great importance in the oil industry but also mining, geothermal projects and tunnelling, for reduction costs to improve security. For sector, it mainly important drilling rate stability borehole and, as a result, economic factor. A key issue that properties, which can support better planning project, cannot be measured or on surface directly. In this study, focus put anisotropic effects correlation between static dynamic neglected most studies because values vary extremely. Therefore, measurements geotechnical laboratory compressional shear wave velocity during uniaxial compression strength test were taken. Additionally, typical like bulk grain density well porosity determined too. Different samples (carbonate–silica schist, marble phyllite) "Zentrum am Berg"-research tunnelling centre at "Erzberg" Austria used. Shown are correlations Young’s modulus including their effect. results promising provide an opportunity further applications log data.
